Aimee C. Campbell

Dr. Campbellā€™s research focuses on the development and testing of individual and program level interventions for substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health disorders, and HIV prevention and treatment, including the leveraging of technology-based platforms, with the objective of increasing adoption and implementation of evidence-based treatments. In collaboration with Dr. Nunes in the NIDA CTN she led a multi-site effectiveness trial of a computer-delivered cognitive-behavioral intervention for substance use disorders, Therapeutic Education System, which demonstrated improved outcome when added to usual treatment. She and Dr. Nunes have remained engaged helping to address the challenges now confronted in moving the intervention (licensed as reSET) toward widespread implementation. Most recently, with funding from the NIDA CTN, Dr. Campbell (with Dr. Kamilla Venner, Univ of NM) is leading an implementation study to culturally center and test an intervention to promote the integration of medications for opioid use disorder into healthcare settings serving Native communities. She is also a co-investigator on the novel NIDA-funded Healing Communities Study, a four-state community engagement intervention to increase adoption of evidence-based practices to reduce opioid overdose rates.
