She has a long-standing interest in emergency care clinical research and has carried out prospective research and secondary data analyses on the emergency evaluation and treatment of patients. Beaumont Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, she is pursuing an ambitious program leading teams to mount and accomplish prospective studies aimed at improving emergency department operations and patient care, and mentoring clinician-investigators and other trainees. The emergency department is often the first place where many individuals with substance use disorders encounter medical care, and Dr. Mills is committed to conducting research to improve care and operations such that these patients become engaged in ongoing effective medical care.
