Kenneth M. Carpenter

Dr. Carpenter is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 18 years’ experience in screening, diagnosing, and treating individuals with substance use disorders. He brings the perspective of a rigorous behavioral psychologist to treatment development and implementation. His major research interests include the role of environmental context on drug treatment outcome and the use of behavioral analytic accounts of human language and cognition for understanding the mechanisms of change in drug treatment programs. Dr. Carpenter oversees the clinical training of doctoral and master level therapists in our division and supervises psychiatry residents in addiction counseling. He  currently  serves  as  a  Multiple  PI  on  a  sequential  behavioral  and medication intervention targeting cocaine use disorder. Recently, through his work with the CMC Foundation and the Partnership for Drug Free Kids, he has been developing and disseminating approaches to help parents and other family members assist loved ones with problems with substance use.
