Silvia S Martins

Dr. Martins is a substance use epidemiologist with a long-term interest in the antecedents and consequences of substance use, substance use disorders and behavioral addiction, as well as on how social and substance use policies impact substance use outcomes. Her current research investigates consequences of cannabis and opioid policies on several substance use-related outcomes in the general population and in chronic pain patients. She is the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. She is the founding director of the Substance Use Epidemiology Unit in the Department of Epidemiology. She was recently selected as a 2021-2023 Tow Leadership Scholar and received the 2021 Calderone Health Equity Award.
